At the beginning of the nineteenth century, there were only about 6,000 Jews in America. The idea that there was freedom in America as long as you were not “too Jewish,” discouraged many Jews from immigrating. Since that time, the Jewish population of America has grown over one thousand-fold, to more than 6.5 million. The Jewish people have thrived and prospered in America, but some say that they have lost much of their heritage and spirituality in the process. Is this true of our family as well?
